Bill Moore: Bisbee Move is “Dream Come True”
Wednesday, January 20, 2010
He’s been coaching baseball for 35 years, but Bill Moore is always ready for a new challenge. The 65 year-old Moore will be joining the Bisbee Copper Kings as the team’s new skipper this season and he’s not trying to temper his enthusiasm about the move. “Three years ago, when we first came to play at Warren Ballpark, I went “Wow, what a setup!” It’s a beautiful park with a great history and good support from the community. Then Tom (Mosier) and I started talking about getting together. It’s a dream come true. I’m really excited about this season. I think it’s going to go pretty well.”
With more than two months to go before the summer season gets underway, Moore has already started putting the pieces of his new team together. “We’ve pretty much got the playing positions filled, but we still need five or six pitchers.”
Among his returning players is center fielder Dominic Gamboa, who paced Moore’s Garden of Gears team to a Pacific Southwest Baseball League championship in 2009. “I think he’s about the best player in the league.”
Also signed to play is Vince Coleman Jr., son of former major leaguer Vince Coleman. “The Bisbee Copper Kings will be the premier ball club in the Southwest!”
